A New Initiative

Adventures in Cooperative Research

Research workshops to develop  projects from within the Akademos community

    Sunday August 20th (11-4.30)
    and
    Sunday September 3rd (11-4.0)

    Moonee Valley City Council
    Kellaway Neighbourhood Centre,
    Kellaway Avenue,
    Moonee Ponds

Selby Markham will be workshop leader.

Projects will be:

        • defined by you
        • carried out by you
        • reported by you

You do not have to be a researcher to take part. Akademos is about cooperative activity so one of the aim is to help members to develop new skills and abilities.  

There are many roles you can choose from, depending on your what you want to develop and what your current skills are. You might be:

    A researcher
    A data collector
    A public relations person
    A data analyst
    A mentor
    A report writer
    Or a combination of these

The program

    Workshop #1 August 20th

    • The principles of Akademos research - ethics and process
    • What topics are members interested in?
    • Who might want to join a topic group?
    • Forming preliminary research groups
    • Developing a modus operandus
    • Generating tasks to be done to validate topic
    • Reporting back and outlining initial plans

     August 21st to September 2nd

    • Testing out ideas
    • Collecting information
    • Exploring ethical questions
    • Drafting submission and research plan

    Workshop #2 September 3rd

    • Consolidating (or rejecting topic)
    • Finalising research teams
    • Defining skills development
    • Defining timelines
    • Recognising and allocating mentors
    • Allocating tasks to group members

After the second workshop, each group will submit their proposal to the Management Committee to check that all Akademos requirements have been met.
