At present the universities are as uncongenial to teaching as the Mojave Desert to a clutch of Druid priests. If you want to restore a Druid priesthood, you cannot do it by offering prizes for Druid-of-the Year. If you want Druids, you must grow forests. William Arrowsmith

Akademos Courses
Akademos believes in free education, not free in the sense of no fees, although that is desirable, but free in the sense of open, uncensored honest sharing of knowledge and understanding. This affects the conduct of Akademos classes; they should be small groups of people to facilitate a two way exchange, not vast lecture groups. They should be based on human contact; teachers cannot be replaced by machines. Classes should be led by people with a passion for their subject, not by desperate part-time employees.
A second principle is that education is most creative when it crosses traditional boundaries. For example the course Globalisation, Sustainability and Ecology brought together these three disciplines, looking from both a human and a technical viewpoint. The course Night Forest was a mixture of Mathematics and Graphic Design. All knowledge is linked to all other knowledge.
